The duo Hutchins-Wheeler is formed by saxophonist Kyle Hutchins and Kendra Wheeler. Acclaimed as "epic" (Jazz Times), "formidable" (The Saxophone Symposium) and "enthralling" (Star Tribune), Kyle Hutchins is a performer, composer and improviser acclaimed internationally. In
she has presented her works in the five continents, recorded over two dozen albums, premiered hundreds of new works, is the author of a book, and has edited several anthologies of music for saxophone. He is a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Hutchins is part of the faculty of Virginia Tech since 2016, where he is an Assistant Professor of Practice. Is a performer of Yamaha, Légère Reed and E. Rousseau Mouthpiece.
Dr. Kendra Wheeler is a partner, chamber music, educator, and advocate of the music and the musicians emerging, diverse musicians emerging, diverse, and historically excluded. He has performed in major halls and festivals in Italy, Croatia, Greece, England and the united States. His work has been recognized by
organizations and competitions of national and international renown as a Concert Artist Concert Artist Guild, Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition, drop down-beat notes Magazine, and the PanAmerican International Saxophone Competition. Dr. Wheeler is a Doctor of Musical Arts from Michigan State University. She is an associate professor of saxophone at Central Washington University and is a Performer of Eastman, Silverstein Works, and Légère.
